How to Prepare for a Labor-Only Move
The less prep work the crew has to do around your stuff, the more time they spend actually moving it. Here's what makes a real difference:
Have the truck, pod, or container on-site and accessible before we arrive
Delays waiting for a truck to show up eat into your booked time. Have it ready to load.
Have boxes packed, sealed, and labeled
Open or half-packed boxes slow everything down and can shift in transit. Tape them shut and write the destination room on the top and side.
Clear the path before the crew shows up
Remove rugs that could slip, move small items out of hallways, and make sure doorways are clear. A clean path is a fast path.
Flag heavy or specialty items when you book — not on move day
If you have a piano, a gun safe, a treadmill, or anything unusually heavy, tell us at the quote stage. It affects crew size and timing.
Know what is and isn't moving before the crew arrives
Unclear plans create confusion and slow the clock. Walk through the space before we start and tell us exactly what's going and what's staying.
Reserve elevator time and parking in advance for apartment buildings
This is especially important in Richmond neighborhoods like Scott's Addition, Manchester, and Downtown. We can provide a COI if your building requires one.
What size truck do I need?
Studio or 1BR: 10–15 ft. Two bedrooms: 16–20 ft. Three bedrooms: 20–26 ft. When in doubt, go one size up — empty space in a truck is a lot less stressful than leaving things behind.
